Lawson McGuinness is a jazz trombonist, educator and composer based in the Northern Rivers of NSW, Australia. He holds a B. Mus (Perf) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Lawson is an active member within the music scene, and regularly performs across the city and country in a variety of groups and styles. These styles include big band, jazz, salsa, classical and commercial/pop. Some people he has played with include: James Morrison, Sydney Jazz Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra, Mark Vincent, Yan Collazo,  Judy Bailey's Jazz Connection, Dan Barnett's Big Band, Salsa Kings, Caravana Sun, Sydney All Stars Salsa Band.

Lawson's enthusiasm and skill has lead him to play at many events and festivals, including: Twilight at Taronga Zoo, International Jazz Day, Manly Jazz Festival, Oktoberfest, Big Band Blast and Sydney Conservatorium International Jazz Festival.

Throughout Lawson's study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he has had the privilege of learning from some of Australia' finest Jazz Musician, such as Judy Bailey, James Greening, Michael Rivett, Matt McMahon and David Theak, just to name a few.

​

Lawson was lucky enough to have a strong musical upbrining, having family tradition steeped in Australian Brass Band music, which provided him with a beautiful and solid musical foundation. This was followed by attending Kirrawee High School where his passion for music, Jazz music particularly, was born. The school has been a hub for great musicians in the past, such as Emma Pask and Dane Laboyrie. Being in this environment; playing in the school big band under the direction of Athony Gullick, along with regular performances with James Morrison, ignited Lawon's desire to become a professional musician.

These experience has lead Lawson, in the present, to be an ever-learning and growing musician, and an avid teacher, who is passionate to bring his experience and energy to younger students, and inspire them to have fun, to become the best they can be - both within and outside music.
